Another variation where we start out as usual but at the traffic circle in Riverhead we go south on Route 104 and make our way to the golf course road. At the end of that road we will have our rest stop at Wildwood Lake, mile 26, before returning. Check out the route below so you will know when to turn, hope to see you there!
Note: check out the ride posting Monday morning, it is supposed to be very cold, if so I may cancel
With the colder temperatures, we'll do a non-stop ride - so we won't cool-down.
The route will take us around the Manorville area, where we will visit some of the rolling hills and grades. The route will include Mill Road and Grumman Boulevard.
So, bundle-up and pack some gels and water bottles, because we'll only be stopping for flats or regroups after the harder sections!
We will be leaving Oakdale RR and head to Bellport and returning to Oakdale for a 29 mile ride. Our food/restroom break will be around mile 16 in Bellport. The ride will be at a (B - pace) with an average speed of around 14.5 mphand road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
If you have any questions text or call Mike 516 448-8545. Changes or cancelation will be posted by 8:00am day of ride.
The traditional Joe B route with a break at Panera Bread in Riverhead. Pace will average between 14.5-15.5, depending on the group and the winds. Check calendar before leaving your house, any changes will be posted by 7:00 am.
Join me for this C ride, which will average 11.8 - 12.2, depending on the wind, etc.; no one gets dropped; we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Ride route will be determined by the road conditions; decision to be made the morning of the ride; no cue sheets. We will either head to Blue Point or to Oakdale for our break; there will be a bathroom stop.
NOTE: new mid-week parking location on the NORTH SIDE OF THE RR STATION
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me at 631-523-2129 with your NAME, SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
Let's take advantage of the relatively milder temps forecasted for Wed and favorable SW wind. We'll leave from the Speonk LIRR station and head east toward Montauk. We'll ride through Westhampton and take Dune Rd to Hampton Bays. We'll take the scenic roads through Southampton and Bridgehampton (I try to avoid Mtk Hwy as much as possible). I'm not sure how far we'll get but I need to catch the 11:30am train from Montauk that arrives Speonk at 12:46pm. That train makes all local stops to Speonk so we can catch it at Amagansett (11:49am), East Hampton (11:54am), Bridgehampton (12:04pm) or Southampton (12:13pm). Once we get back to Speonk, for those who have time, I'm planning to have a quick lunch at Little Gull Cafe. This little gem is located in the old Speonk LIRR Ticket Office. Park on the east side of the station near the restaurant.
Please bring sufficient hydration/food and $$ for train ticket. Bike permits are no longer required for the LIRR.
Please call or txt if you plan to join (347-922-3824). If there's not enough interest I may change or cancel this ride. Changes will be posted by 7am day of ride.
I will be going slow and skipping all DBDs (Double Black Diamonds); I plan to do most of the BDs that I skipped last time (More On 4 and Wild Turkey) ... I will initially skip BD 1 (the Rt 112 loop) and hope to have time to do it at the end.
Please let me know if you plan to be at the start (I'll wait if necessary) OTHERWISE we may leave the Ride Start early!
If you contact me (631-988-6557) that you plan to join me then I'll contact you directly if there's any changes AND you'll only have to add your signature to the Ride Sign In sheet at the start.
Always check back to my postings before leaving for the ride ... Life Happens and Things Change!
Off to Smith Point County Park where we will take a break as we view the Atlantic Ocean. Restrooms are available at miles 7, 15 and 19. The Bellport lot does not have available bathrooms. Bring snacks and water, there is a 7-11 just before the park if you want to purchase anything. To join this ride, text Bill G. @ 631-356-3036. With your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calander the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 7:30 am.

The route rolls around Manorville, before we hit Mill Road and then a quick stop at the gas station. Then we'll time trial down Route 24, before we hit Area 51 and The Hill. After a quick regroup we head down County Road 51 and back to the finish.
Off to Nettie's, with its great choice of baked goods, and now there is also soup with a roll. Nettie's has outdoor tables, and two indoor areas, one of which has a fireplace. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Note: If there are strong winds, mileage and speed may be reduced. Let's get some miles in, and get home. Expect mostly long straightaways on less traveled roads. Break at Bean and Bagel halfway into the ride. Note start time of 9:30 am. Any changes will be posted by 7:30 am.
Meet at the little community parking lot "behind" Tildas where a playground is next to it.
NOTE: I will be there about 5..10min before as riding to the start.
We stay and work together in team formation and adjust to the pace required for most efficient moving. I'll be happy to advise on safe team style riding.
A few "play" sections at hills and a like, you'll find out, no worries, always regroup rigth after as needed.
Notes on stops/food: try to be self sufficient. But two brief snack and photo stops to eat: At Iron Pier Beach Park, and a quick stop at a nice spot in South James Port/Peconic Bay view. If some one preffers a hot coffee we can also adjust or add a stop on James Port, two options fast or even sit in there.
Note: there may still be a bridge closure (damn bridge) as of construction on the regular route, have a alt route/detour if needed.
The desired route. It just came to my attetion the bridge is completed now!
This is going to be an easy paceline ride to Briermere Farms. We'll take this as a fun no-drop recovery ride.
Outbound takes us on the normal route through the fields, leading to a stop at Briermere at 18 miles. We'll then head back down to Riverhead, where we'll pick-up Route 24 back to River / Old River to the finish.
We will go the usual route heading south using the connetquot park bike path. We'll work our way down to Heckscher Park. I would like to keep the road speeds 15-18 mph and come in at an average 15 and 15.9. Pulls are always Appreciated
We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. There will be a break at McDonlds around mile 20. This is a B- ride that will average around 14.5 - 15 mph with road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
Please text me, if you plan to come, including your SBRA number. If no one responds, I'll leave from home. My cell is 631-835-1454.
This is basically a straight run from Stony Brook Rd. south to Foster Park in Sayville. It will be about halfway to the park, where we'll check out the water view, then we'll have our break on Main St. at the Dunkin'Donuts.
This is as flat as a north/south route can get. Weather should be good. Hope you'll come along for the ride!
This will be an easy C ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.6 - 12.1 and we will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your Name, SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready
PS: by now everyone should know how to download the rides to their Garmin or Wahoo computers. If you are not sure please check with me for help. It really works great and takes the stress off of knowing where the turns are.
Haven't ridden in ages so don't expect a lot of speed!
Park at the back left hand side of the car park. Bathrooms are in the library.
Usual route round Strongs neck, then to the lighthouse, over mt Grey and to the beach. We will make quick stops for refreshements but we don't want to get cold.
Let's try a slightly longer and faster version of Ronnie's (and John's), Joe B ride. We'll leave 5 minutes after them and ride in a paceline, to meet them at the Panera Bread in Riverhead at around 21 miles.
After the stop we'll head back on a route that more closely follows the original Joe B., including the ride around Peconic Lake. But, we will go up Burman Blvd. to Route 25, and then go directly up Wading River Rd. to the finish.
Let's plan on a controlled pace and work together so no one gets dropped!
CHECK ON THE DAY OF THE RIDE FOR ANY WEATHER-RELATED CHANGES!
Off to Nettie's Bakery, for baked treats or soup with a roll. Nettie's has both indoor and outdoor eating areas, and indoor restrooms. We will be riding on mostly local roads in Manorville and Calverton. as well as Center Moriches. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Join the Thunderbirds for a moderate paceline ride down to Westhampton Beach. We'll have a short stop at the Beach Bakery in Westhampton Beach at 16.5 miles. We want to keep the break short, so we don't get cold!
We'll take a slightly modified route to Westhampton Beach, which will hopefully get us out of the wind. The return loop takes us past the Casa Basso and up Old Country Road, eventually taking us to Chapman Blvd. and South St to the finish.
Since the air is going to be cold and hard to breath, we're going to drop the pace down to a easy lower B/B+ pace.
We will go the usual route heading south using the connetquot park bike path. We'll work our way down to Heckscher Park. I would like to keep the road speeds 15-18 mph and come in at an average 15 and 15.9. Pulls are always Appreciated

We'll try something different this time! We'll leave from the parking lot across from the Yaphank Firehouse and ride out to the Wildcat Bagel Deli in Wading River.
Outbound we'll head through Yaphank and Manorville, and make a stop at around 14.5 miles. We'll return by heading down through the old Grumman property into Manorville, eventually taking us back to Yaphank.
Plan on riding in a paceline at a controlled B/B+ pace, so no one gets dropped!

The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 16.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are appreciated.
My cell 631-835-1454. If no one joins, I'll leave from home.
Break at Dunkin' at mile 16. Nice, easy ride.
When this ride has ended and is back at Marshall's at 22 miles, a few of us will return to St. James to do some Nissequogue hills. If you have questions, please text me at my cell (above).

So, it's going to be chilly, eh! So, it's going to be like Canada, so welcome to The Great White North! https://youtu.be/OJE3EgTGg9k
OK, the plan is to ride non-stop and get in some miles without freezing. We'll leave the parking lot at the Veteran's Memorial Park, and we'll either head to the Thunderdrome in the old Grumman property, or do a couple of loops of the 9.3 mile bike path. Either way, we'll be close enough to the start that if we feel cold, we can just circle back and end the ride.
The Thunderdrome is the infamous one mile Thunderbird training loop in the industrial park that includes a little hill, an S-turn and some old concrete runway. The perfect loop for a criterium or a training ride... The alternative ride is a couple of laps of the 9.3 mile bike path around the Grumman property. Either way, keep an eye-out for road conditions and other riders: we don't want any accidents!
