Now that it's November, we'll be doing the later start for warmer temps, hopefully.
You know the drill: this is the Kreb ride to The Maples. Cruising UP TO 22mph on the flats; stay together and regroup as necessary to get to 18.9 avg or below at end of ride. Optional sprint on Sills Rd, then regroup after Gazzola turn.
If it's your first time on this ride, please download route and bring a friend; no sweep on this ride.
Enjoy a scenic trip exploring both sides of the Nissequogue. Half the ride is flat and we'll cruise at a brisk B-. We'll take as much time as you need on the climbs, slowing or waiting as necessary. Faster on the downhills. Bring enough snacks as needed for the mileage. There are 2 restroom/water stops and an optional lunch if the group desires.

Today our After Halloween Soup Ride. If you are staying for the soup and sandwiches after the ride please make sure to sign up on our website so we can plan on having enough food for everyone! If you want to help out and make a soup please text me so i can tell Bonnie what you will be making. You can drop off the soup before we head out for the ride.
Disregard the parking fee notice, as there is no parking fee for the winter months.
This is our annual Halloween Ride, with a party afterwards inside the Ecology Center. If you want to come to the party make sure you sign up on line via Pay Pal because space is limited - look at the flier on the website. However, the party is optional so please do not let that stop you from coming on the ride.
This will be a C+ ride that will average 12.2 - 12.7. My route is not definate yet - perahps a loop around Ronkonkoma and down to Sayville. The weather will help decide where we go. There will be a bathroom/snack break wherever we go.
MOM, B+. Cruise 20, avg 18-19. Rest stop at mile 22 at Wildwood Lake. Wait ups as needed but the last one will be at the stop sign intersection of Connecticut, Halsey Manor, and Mill Rds. There are a couple of detours that will be discussed before ride start. Remember, a steady B+ pace is key, without surging. This may be my last ride lead for a while so, like life, let's have fun and enjoy the ride. If there are weather concerns, check this post on Monday morning around 7 am for any updates and/or changes or text me at that time. Hope to see you there.
CANCELLED Sorry, I should never post a ride in the middle of the night!
Come on out for this mellow spin to Bean and Bagel with long straightaways on less traveled roads. I plan to average in the 14s, possibly to low 15s, depending on the group and the winds. Any changes will be posted by 7:00 am.
Rolling regroup after the climbs at the start of Sound shore Road. Looking to average 20-21. This is an alternative to Melo Monday. If Gary posts his alternate to Melo Monday I'll cancel.
This may be the last opportunity to ride the FIREHOUSE 44 for this year. Group effort for a steady pace within the class guidlines. Short stop at the Exxon/7-11 station at mile 27. Looks to be mild temps with a nice tailwind going out; the 17 miles back are mostly sheltered from the wind. Hope you'll join for a fun group ride.
Check back to this posting ... esp. if the wind picks up ... there may be a need for a substitute Ride Leader as I could end up in the woods ;-) .. . The route will go down Rt 25A and then west to Berman. The roadwork over Forge river/Dam Rd should be complete? We'll at least ride there to inspect ;-) .
Shared pulls will be expected ...
Contact me (631-988-6557) if you plan to join us and I'll contact you directly if there's any changes AND you'll only have to add your signature to the Ride Sign In sheet.
Always check back to my postings before leaving for the ride ... Life Happens and Things Change!
Let's take advantage of the predicted mild weather, and meet at The Maples to do another Manorville to Mattituck (MTM) paceline ride. This time around we'll make the end point at the Goldberg's Bagels in Mattituck.
Along the way East, we'll visit The Tanks and then do a run along Sound Avenue.
After a stop for a bagel or coffee in Mattituck, we'll make our return along the Peconic Bay. And we'll pass the Adirondack Chairs on our way to Riverhead. Then it's a final run up Route 24 to the finish!
After today's windy ride, I've rerouted the return to try to avoid the wind! The pace has also been also dropped a bit, since we've already had a hard ride!
This will be a nice controlled paceline ride from The Maples to Briermere Farms, where we'll have a Muffin Stop at around 18 miles. Let's ride together as a team, so no one is left alone in the wind!
The route eastbound will take us out through the farms. The return will take us through Riverhead and along Route 25 and River Road to the finish.
Off to Bean and Bagel, riding on mostly local streets in Calverton and Manorville, and the Grumman Trail. To join, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 7:45am.
Let's take advantage of this record breaking weather. We'll ride the wind from the Riverhead Waterfront out to Greenport. On the way back we'll stop for a quick beer at Greenport Harbor Brew Co. (we'll need some liquid carbs to help us fight the wind back). Only one beer per person - we still need to be safe on the road. If we have time at the end of the ride, we'll see what the Riverhead Brew House has to offer.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 24 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 16.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are appreciated.
Join me for this C+ ride, which will average 11.9 - 12.7, no one gets dropped, and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. We will loop around part of lower Stony Brook, then go around St. James. We will take our break at the St. James Bagel Shop (food, beverages, and bathroom available). Route to be determined the morning of the ride, so no cue sheets.
NOTE #1: Please text me with your name, SBRA Member Number, and Emergency Contact Phone Number if you want to ride, I will return the text: YES, you have a spot; NO, ride is filled. CELL #: 631-523-2129.
NOTE #2:DO NOT PARK NEAR TO MARSHALLS, as the area is not posted for no parking. INSTEAD, park in the open area near to the bank which has been closed for several years.
A scenic ride to the Nissequogue beaches. No food stops, so bring snacks. I'm not sure that restroom and water stops are still open so be prepared. We'll cruise at a brisk B- on the flats and we'll slow or wait as needed on the hills. We'll be patient so this is a good ride to work on your hill skill.
Join us for pizza after the ride - cash only!
Park in the rear of the lot across from Little Vincent's.
Annual Officers and Directors final Nominations and Election Night
Officers and Directors Nominations will be presented again by the Nomination Committee as was done at the October meeting. If you are interested in running for a position on the board, you can still step up and be nominated at the November meetings. Just have a fellow member nominate you when the nomination committee or president asks if there are any other nominations from the floor.
Once the request for nomination from the floor has been asked and answered, no other nominations will be accepted. If there is only one SBRA Member running for each board position then the SBRA Secretary will cast a single vote for each position, which will represent the vote on behalf of the membership. Should more than one SBRA Member run for a particular board position, then an electronic voting process will take place. An electronic voting process shall be an email sent out to all SBRA Members on the day following the November meeting. The email will provide a link to an online voting page. Online voting will be open for (1) week, from November 8th through November 14th at 9:00 pm. Following the end of the voting period, all newly elected Officers and Directors will be notified. An email will also be sent out to the membership announcing the new board and will also be announced at the December "IN PERSON" holiday social meeting on December 5th at 7:00 pm.
All newly elected Officers and Directors shall take office at the January 2025 SBRA General Meeting.
GUEST SPEAKER: SBRA Member Trevor Sears will be doing a presentation about the group trip to Italy, with pictures and a short video. The SBRA November General Meeting will be held as an "IN PERSON" meeting, on Thursday, November 7th at 7:00 pm. Please join us for this IN PERSON meeting for a chance to see some of your fellow SBRA members that you may not have seen for a while. We hope to see you at the meeting!
Off to Briermere's, which has picnic tables and restrooms. On the way we make a quick viewing stop at the Bison Farm, hopefully the bison will be in a pasture viewable from the road. If enough riders are in the mood to split the cost of a pie, we will do that. Briermere's also has a number of individually sized baked goods that are available for purchase, as well as coffee and tea. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:15am.

The new firehouse sprint. 39 miles of fun pushing hard to finish above 21mph. I'm posting this as an A+ in hopes to come in higher than 21. There will be a group stop at mile 25 Grumman Jets. Pedal to the metal sprint down to Grumman Blvd with a short ReGroup. Please pay attention to Weather as I may Delay till 9:30am.
Text me by Thursday Night if you plan to ride. Also, A+ riders or Higher are welcome to join the fun so we can test our abilities against faster riders. I will add Riders signed up to this post!
This is a B+ ride however we will be bringing it back down to a true B+ which is between a 17 and 17.9 Average..taking it down for the colder days..Most likely will be mid 17 average.
*** the route has been change due to the contruction on Halsey and Mill. We will add the mileage to the back end of the route. No Mill or Halsey or Silas Carter today..
Calverton is one of the best begineer trails on Long Island, even the Black Diamonds (BD) are only Intermediate level. As a begineer there's only one BD that I might lead you down if you are so inclinded (it's really a decline ;-). If no Beginneers show than this will be an Intermediate ride.
This venue requires a DEC parking permit (haven't seen anyone being checked for a long time though). Easy to obtain a permit here: https://www.sbraweb.org/node/6490
If you don't have a permit you can park ~ 1/2 mile away at the Veterans Memorial Park and ride over.
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.
I am having a knee issue so Marie will lead this ride for me. Hope to see you soon!
Park in the overflow lot south of the RR station. We will likely go west a bit to Oakdale then come back for our stop at the Blue Point Library. Easy pace. Mileage around 20. Check back here for any changes which would be posted by 7 am. Text me with any questions. It would be nice to know if you are joining me but not mandatory.
We will go the usual route heading south using the connetquot park bike path. We'll work our way down to Heckscher Park. I would like to keep the road speeds 15-18 mph and come in at an average 15 and 15.9. Pulls are always Appreciated
Doing 20 miles. 10 miles to the bagel shop. Then 10 miles to the start. Speed between 14 and 15. Depends on wind direction, riders who shows and other stuff.
How about a ride to Cupsogue Beach to enjoy the mild weather and a near empty Dune Road?
So we'll meet at the Dayton Avenue School and ride in a paceline down to Westhampton Beach. We'll then cross over the safer Beach Lane bridge, and then it's a long run west down Dune Road to Cupsogue.
The return takes us back through Westhampton Beach, with a possible stop at the Beach Bakery at around 29 miles. We then continue up the Casa Basso to Montauk Highway, and eventually Frowein Road back to Moriches-Middle Island Road and on to the finish.
This will be an easy C+ ride around Center Moriches, that will average 11.8 - 12.5 and will be taking our break at Nettie's. There are some very nice water views along the way. No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.
The number of riders is limited, so if you want to ride, text me (631-523-2129) with your Name, SBRA Member Number and Emergency Contact phone number. I will respond to your text and let you know if you have a spot on the ride. Once the ride is filled, I will change to post to indicate that.
MEETING LOCATION: straight back from Wendy's and Dunkin Donuts, on the EAST SIDE of the shopping center.
Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready
Come join us for some scenic riding. We will head out on a 32 or so mile ride through Remsenburgh, West Hampton and Quogue seeing the sights, but maintaining a steady pace on basically flat terrain. There will be a break at the Quogue Wild Life Preseerrve where one can eat a sandwich or a snack. However, some of us after the ride may stop at Little Gull at the Speonk LIRR parking lot for their amazing pancakes.
I am finally recovered from the respiratory infection and this is my first ride back, so the pace will probably be a bit slower than usual.
Please bring plenty of hydration, snacks or a sandich for our food break, the usual bike requirements and an upbeat inquisitive, fun attitude, ready to explore, discover. Please text me that you will be joining the ride at 917-921-5358, thank you (I generally send th final ridewithgps file to those who text me).
Normal Mellow Monday route thru Burman Blvd but then we go right to start the Reverse portion. Rest stop at Wildwood Lake, waitups as needed. On the return we will take River Road because of the road work being done on Mill Road. Check back Monday morning because rain is predicted at the time of this post. Hope to see you there!
NOTE: We may skip the Lake Panamoka loop due to wet roads and leaves and just take Wading River Manor Road to 25A. We will decide at route start
Join me for this easy ride from Calverton Memorial Park, where we will ride on the back roads around Manorville and Calverton. We may take our break at the deli outside of Wildwood State Park or at Bean & Bagel. Sorry to cancel the road ride! I'm wimping out of the forecasted 24 mph winds and chill factor below 40F ... First time at Overton this season ... I will be going slow and I will skip all DBDs (Double Black Diamonds) and expect to skip some of more difficult BDs.

Since there weren't many rides scheduled, I've put up an easy B/B+ paceline ride from The Maples....
Outbound, we'll head out through the farms and take advantage of the northwest winds, before we head down into Riverhead.
We'll have a stop at the Goldberg's Bagels in Riverhead at around 19.7 miles, to stretch and maybe grab a snack.
After our Riverhead stop, on the return loop we'll try to avoid the wind by zigzaging around the back roads of Riverhead to River Road and then back to the finish.
IF anyone is having troubles keeping-up, we will slow the group to keep them with us! Since it may be windy, we can always change the route and decrease the miles - depending on the group!
The usual route to Manorville with some changes when we leave the park to avoid the mess on Victory. This is a true B+ not averaging over 18 for the ride. Winter Mode!
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 26 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.

Please let me know if you are joining, so I know if I'm leaving from home or Marshall's. My cell: 631-835-1454.
Lets go out and have a nice ride in Watopia YaTopia, where the weather isn't warm, the winds aren't still and dinosaurs no longer roam.
This will be an A- ride, coming in high 19's low 20's. If you doubt your ability, show up and try. There will be a spot or 2 to have a breakaway if you wish, with a regroup after. We'll take the south route along the shoreline through Eastport and Remsenberg out to Westhampton Beach. We'll then have a short stop at the Beach Bakery.
The return will take us back up the Casa Basso and through Eastport to Frowein Road and the finish.
A few SBRA members rode this a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. It's different with a twist of Hills Hill section x2. Regroup on hills after 5 mile mark. The way back with a wind push could drive up the Speed. There will be wait ups!
We will be leaving the bank heading to Babylon. There will be a break at McDonlds around mile 20. This is a B- ride that will average around 14.5 - 15 mph with road speeds that will reach 16 to 19 mph.
This will be the usual ride Howard does on Sunday. I expect the road speed to be between 15-17 mph with a ride average in the low to mid 15 range. Of course this will all depend upon the wind and weather. We will have a stop for refreshments, if anyone would like to try something different I am open for suggestions, otherwise it's the same bagel stop.

Let's head out east for a late season ride from Hampton Bays to Montauk, a Montauk half century. The ride will leave at 10:15 from the Hampton Bays LIRR station parking lot to give us a little more warmth in the day. The forecast for Sunday at the time I am listing the ride, is for sunny skies with temps in the high 50's and most importantly winds from the west. Check back closer to the ride as the the ride is unpleasant if winds switch to the east (in that case likely would be cancelled).
The ride is around 50 mostly scenic, miles, including the fun rolling hills on Old Montauk Highway with some great views towards the ocean. Ride will keep a steady pace, but won't overly rush as we want to enjoy the tour out East. Once we get to Montauk, we take the LIRR back to Hampton Bays (train is at 3:43). Please be sure to bring money for return ticket and a bungee cord to secure your bike on the train.
Bring some food, snacks and sufficient hydration. We will have a brief stop at Goldberg's Bagels in Wainscott on the way . Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.
Please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358 with any questions and to let me know you will join us (might have to limit participation because of train). I usually forward a final ridewithgps file to those who contact me.
A bit of a change up on the ride this week. After the Wildwood Lake rest stop we will return by Routes 51 and 111. Check out the RWGPS route below so you know the turns. 8:30 am start, hope to see you there!
Let's meet at The Maples in Manorville, for a paceline run out to Mattituck (MTM). It looks like the weather and temperature will be favorable for a longer ride, so let's take advantage of it!
Along the way, we'll ride out through the farms as we head East. AND we'll throw in The Tanks, where everyone can ride at their own pace. We'll then regroup at Iron Pier Beach.

Off to Briermere's, with a brief stop to see the Bison, if they are in a field near the road. If there are enough people to share the cost of a pie, we can get a pie. Briermere's also has individually sized bake goods, as well as hot drinks. Indoor rest rooms are available, an outdoor area has picnic tables. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036 with your full name and date of ride. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:15am.
Come join us for scenic riding and the opportunity for pancakes (or other delights) at the end. The ride will start promptly at around 9:50 at the Speonk LIRR train station, when a train from the City is scheduled to arrive (we have someone joining us via the train).
We will head out on a 34 or so scenic mile ride through Eastport, Manorville, the Moriches and Remsenburgh seeing the sights, but maintaining a steady pace. When we get back to Speonk there will be an opportunity to get lunch/brunch at the truly amazing Little Gull Cafe. Their pancakes as well as their other selections are quite special and Little Gull was just named one of the top 50 places on Long Island. All in all a quick, compact day, but well worth it for the scenery, the lovely riding and those amazing pancakes.
Please bring plenty of hydration, snacks, funds for Little Gull, the usual bike requirements and an upbeat inquisitive, fun attitude, ready to explore and discover. Please text me at 917-921-5358 if joining us. I usually send the final ridewithgps route to those that text me.
We will be leaving Bank of America and head to Great River and East Islip for a 24 mile ride. The ride will be at a B- pace with an average speed of around 14.5 to 15 mph and road speeds that will reach 16 to 18 mph.

No one gets dropped and we will be observing spacing rules, etc. Since the exact route will be determined as we go along, there will not be a cue sheet.

It's time to kick-off another winter training season with the fabulous Thunderbirds!
We'll meet at the Dayton Avenue School for a (hopefully), wind-avoiding paceline ride to Westhampton Beach (W.H.B.).
The route ooutbound will go along the shoreline heading through Eastport and Remsenberg to W.H.B. We'll then have a short stop at Westhampton Beach at around 17.5 miles, possibly at the Beach Bakery.
The return will take us on a route that will shelter us from the wind, visiting the Casa Basso and Old Country Road, leading us back to Manorville.
Let's plan on workng together, so no one gets dropped and is left struggling in the wind!
Off to Nettie's Bakery, which now has soup and a roll on its menu, as well as baked goods. Note: Sometimes the parking lot at Veteran's Park is full due to its field games and racketball courts, but there is an additional parking field by the hockey rink located at the Southeastern end of the lot. To join this ride, text Bill G. at 631-356-3036, with your full name and the date of the ride. This ride could be shortened if the windspeed is high. Check the ride calendar the day of the ride for changes, which would be posted by 07:30am.
Posting this ride hoping that the rain and wind will not be an issue! I will be watching the weather and will update my post if anything changes so please check back up to the morning of the ride.
