Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

This year we are once again participating in the Ride of Silence, in coordination with the national Ride of Silence. This ride is a memorial for those who have died or been injured while riding their bicycles. The idea of this ride is to raise the consciousness of the non-cycling public to the hazards that cyclists face while sharing the road with motor vehicles. An ex-President of SBRA, Jeff Ferber, was killed by an automobile while on a bicycle ride in Colorado in 2004. A memorial posting for Jeff is available on the RoS site. On this ride there will be only one slow pace maintained by all riders. All traffic laws will be obeyed. Here is a link to the official site: http://www.rideofsilence.org/main.php SBRA will be hosting two rides, with one starting in Riverhead and the other in East Islip. Riders are encouraged to participate in whichever ride is more convenient to get to. Please note that our rides are starting at 5:30 PM, instead of the national official start time of 7 PM, due to darkness related safety concerns. Although our rides should finish before darkness falls, it is suggested that everyone have front and rear lights and wear white tee shirts. Each Ride Leader will have "Ride of Silence" signs which participants may affix to thier shirt or jersey (safety pins will be supplied). Day of ride, call 631-455-4251 with any questions.
