Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

The other BBB (Bike, Boat, Brooklyn) returns.

We meet at the east end of the Long Beach Boardwalk at Neptune Blvd.  This route will go Long Beach Boardwalk (BW), Atlantic Beach (BW), Far Rockaway (BW)... then we'll board a 10:15am NYC Ferry from 108th Street in Far Rockaway and disembark in Sunset Park, Brooklyn.  From there we ride back along the Belt Parkway Bike Path, under the Verrazano Bridge, then onto some city streets to Nathan's in Coney Island for the official pitstop.

From there... the ride continues back through Coney Island, Sheepshead Bay, Belt Parkway Bike Path, over the Marine Bridge, the Far Rockaway Boardwalk from beginning to end, Atlantic Beach Bridge to Long Beach Boardwalk and done.

Although posted as a B/B+ this will be a somewhat casual ride.  The moving pace will be in the 16-18 mph range when possible... which will be off-set substantially by much slower riding on boardwalks and some city streets.  The "hills" are mostly bridges (which can be challenging for people who don't like heights), but most of the route is dead flat.

It's about 40 miles of riding (57 if you count the miles on water). Here's a link to the route: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/31065458

The NYC Ferry has an 8-10 bike limit.  If we have too many bikes to fit on the ferry… then we ride straight to Nathan’s and return via Howard Beach back to the Rockaways.  That route would be more like 50 miles of riding.  Here's the link to that route:  https://ridewithgps.com/routes/25421733

This is an RSVP ride.  I would like to know as early as possible if

I have no set time frame for how long the ride will take, but we should be back in Long Beach by 3-3:30pm. This is a no drop ride and wait-ups (if necessary) will be no problem.  The speed of the group will be adjusted down to the speed of the slowest rider. Just bring your best bike handling skills and don't get freaked out by some riding on busy city streets.  There are restroom options all along the way.  Bring plenty of snacks, gels, and water.

Questions?  Concerns?  Feel free to text me....

Remember to RSVP:  Please text me in advance if you plan to come.  Include your name and SBRA Member ID and I'll sign you in.

The threat of wet weather will make me cancel this ride and reschedule.

Distance:

Class:

Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

Queens-Manhattan-Bronx-Brooklyn

Here's the plan....

Roosevelt Island
59th Street Bridge
East Side Promenade
Randalls Island
Yankee Stadium
Macombs Dam Bridge
Harlem River Bike Path
Hudson River Bike Path
South Street Seaport
Willamsburg Bridge
Pulaski Bridge
Gantry Plaza State Park

The route is about 42 miles with about 900 ft of elevation. A 42 mile city ride with stops for sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect.  I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm. Here's a link to the route:

http://ridewithgps.com/routes/47768860

Bring snacks and gels. There will be a rest stop somewhere along the way.

Obviously… not your typical "club ride". It's more like a day-long adventure ride.  I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Most will have a designated bike lane. A few will not.  Some bicycle paths will have bumpy segments.  I always use my back-up "rain" road bike with 28mm tires.

This is a B/B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but more for the hills (bridges) and the general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.

This is also an RSVP ride. Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in.

If you need an address for your GPS to find the start location, then use 42-25 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11101

Feel free to text me with your questions or concerns.

Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

Join me for a big loop around Queens.  The route is about 40 miles with about 1100 ft of elevation.

The route features:

Flushing Promenade
Astoria Park
Roosevelt Island
Gantry Plaza State Park
A short leg into Brooklyn
World's Fair Grounds
Kissena Velodrome
Kissena Park Bike Path
Vanderbilt Motor Pkwy Bike Path
Cross Island Parkway Bike Path

A 40 mile city ride with stops for food, sightseeing and photos can be a longer day than you might expect. I hope to be back at the cars by 3pm.

Bring snacks and gels. There will be a bagel stop in Long Island City around the 20 mile mark.

Obviously… not your typical "club ride". This will be much more of a "tour ride". I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Many will have a designated bike lane... a few might not.... but on the brightside... there are no bridges.  Of all the city rides I put together, I think this one feels the most adventurous.

This is a B/B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but for the general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.

This is an RSVP ride.  Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in.

(Just for your 411... I'm finalizing at least another two city rides probably Oct 6th and maybe the 13th or 20th)
