Guest Speaker: Jerry Licht, an SBRA member, will be the guest speaker at this meeting. He’ll discuss his 2015 summer adventure, The Great Divide Mountain Biking Tour, along the Continental Divide.
Program: A Solo self-supported Bike-Packing adventure. Over the summer of 2015 Jerry Licht rode the Great Divide Mountain Biking Route. The GDMBR is consider to be the worlds premier Bike-Packing route which runs from Banff, Alberta to the Mexican Boarder some 2800 miles on dirt. Grizzly Bears, Mountain Lions, Wolverines and wild and crazy Characters along the way.

This is the usual Slow Hills route with two additions: a bathroom stop about mile 9 at the library and a one-mile walk (round trip) shortly after the lighthouse to check out the boardwalk over Flax Pond. We will have our usual snack break at the lighthouse. Weather is supposed to be DRY. The walk is flat and paved and the scenery is lovely. Something different for a Friday morning.

Ride the Four Peninsula rollars and hills of Three Village area, Setauket, Stony Brook and Old Field. Ride will head first to West Meadow/Trustees Road for a bathroom opportunity.

Ride should come in at a C+/B- pace, 13-14mph average, being slowed by rollers, hills and turns. At times we will be cruising in the 17+mph range.
This ride is about getting out to see where we are at. For those that are faster there will be spots to take off. For any slower riders we will take care of you to. I'm going to try to avoid the wind as much as possible. Call if you have any questions.
Join the Thunderbirds for the first of our Century training rides. These will be some rides to get in shape for the Bloomin' Metric in Connecticut and the SBRA RxR Century. This will be a paceline ride and you should have gotten in some rides already, so you're ready to work-up to the longer distance training rides you'll need to do those big rides. The plan is to ramp-up the distance and speed over the next rides, so we can ride a century at a B/B+ or B+ pace.
Remember: "To finish first, first you must finish!" (-Sir Stirling Moss (?)). So, don't push the pace in the beginning!
This week we'll leave from the Eastport Kreb Cycle, (park in the back section of the lot at the northwest corner).
The route takes us along the middle section of the Century, through the rolling terrain in Westhampton and Hampton Bays. We'll have a food stop at 23 miles at the western end of Southampton at a Goldberg's Bagels. We'll then return back through Quogue and Westhampton on a slightly flatter route.
This 18-24 mile ride will now be on the SOUTH SIDE of the Ronk train station near the Western end of the parking lot closest to Railroad Ave. Bring a snack and hydration. There are some very nice water views along the way. We'll be riding from Blue Pt Brew out to East Hampton to take advantage of a nice forecasted SW tailwind. This is a one-way ride so we will be taking the LIRR back to Patchogue (3:40pm train from East Hampton arrives in Patchogue at 4:53pm). Please bring $$ and/or credit card for train ticket.
This is a very scenic ride and I try to avoid main/busy roads as much as possible. Food/hydration/rest stops approximately every 20 miles (or as needed). No one gets dropped unless they decide to stop. This is a great route because anyone can opt out at any point. You just need to ride to the nearest LIRR station on the Montauk Branch. In an attempt to catch up to the retired folk who get to train while us poor saps are at work. I have decided to make an evening ride for all who work a typical 9-5 can attend. I plan on doing this as a weekly ride throughout the summer with the only thing changing is the route.
The goal for this ride is to finish with an average pace of around ~17.5mph. There will be brief waitups at the top of every large hill climb (Cordwood, Long Beach and 3 sisters).

Scenic century training ride to Shleter Island. Riverhead out to Greenport and then ferry to SI. We'll ride past those nice homes along Derring Harbor and hit the Ram Island hills before heading to Sag Harbor via the South Ferry. Tour through Bridgehampton, Watermill and Southampton before returning to Riverhead.

Coming from Lakeland Ave. Sunrise Hwy., go North just pass Vets Hwy make right on Smithtown Ave (following alongside of airport), just before bridge make right on Railroad Ave, parking is on left side (go past one way entrance and make 1st available left into lot).
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park .I would like to keep the road speed between 15- 16 mph and come in at an average 14 and 14.9. Pulls Always Appreciated

The route will be shared later, but expect some additional climbing. Get ready to push yourself and strengthen your legs for our weekly strength-building ride. This will help improve your climbing skills. There will be waitups and Soft Peddles at the top of hills. Cordwood will be included in this ride! I initially rated it as a B+, but be prepared for a possible A-/B+ level of effort.

This will happen the 3rd Tuesday of every month moving forward. We will start ride out of SSM at 5pm ride anywhere from 25-30 miles at a controlled pace at B+/A-. Great opportunity for you to collect some Zone 2 miles. Not a race to give opportunities to others to get miles.
After ride we will pack up and drive over to Medford RT112 and Portion road for some Tacos at Catus cafe for a social snack/dinner.

Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 14 to 15.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Enjoy some nice water views and some good pizza. Roughly half the ride is flat (beginning and end) with rolling hills in between. We"ll cruise the flats at 13 mph and go slower going up and faster down. This is a good ride to practice some hills because we will be patient and wait up as needed. Park in the rear of the lot across from LIttle Vincents and join us for arguably one of LI's best pizzas afterward. Pizza is cash only!

Riders should arrive at least 15 minutes before the ride start, to allow enough time for me to get everyone signed in and to "get yourself" ready.
Come join us as we head east on a scenic and fun ride with lots of water views and a few different roads as we head from Jamesport to Cuitchogue and Mattituck. We meet in Jamesport at the George Young Community Center, which is just off route 25 - there is a traffc light and a gas staton on the corner by the turn to the Center.
We will stop in Cutchogue by Braun's and Black Sheep Bagel for a snack. Please bring hydration, snacks and an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.

The Intercept and the Breakaway. Looking for a few riders to join me on riding to Brian Tooles Calverton 41 at 9am. This ride to the Ride is about 12 miles. We will then Sogn into Brian's Ride at 9am ride the Calverton 41 with the Breakaway happening at David Terry RD (haha My Road) the return to YFH is about 7 miles in return.

Scenic century training ride to Shleter Island. Riverhead out to Greenport and then ferry to SI. We'll ride past those nice homes along Derring Harbor and hit the Ram Island hills before heading to Sag Harbor via the South Ferry. Tour through Bridgehampton, Watermill and Southampton before returning to Riverhead.
Stops approx every 20-25 miles or as needed. Bring sufficient hydration, food and $$ for ferry. We'll stop for a quick lunch somewhere (probably Sag Harbor).
This will be a true B+ ride. I will not be pushing the upper limits. This ride is intended to help riders build endurance and is not focused on speed.

Leave the Kreb Cycle in Eastport for a Century traing ride that will take out to Water Mill for the food stop. NOTE: This will be a paceline ride.
We'll build on the last Century Training Ride, adding in some miles while following the Century course on the outbound loop. The turnaround point will be at Water Mill.
We'll make some changes on the return loop, so pay attention or you may miss a turn!

Last weekend was the cycling monument of Liège–Bastogne–Liège. This weekend is the not so cycling monument of Yaphank Exxon Yaphank. It will be a 42.5mile ride at an A-/A paced ride with a goal of coming in around 20.5mph. However, the main goal is to have a safe and fun time riding on two wheels. The first half of the ride will have some hills but there will be a wait up after Carl Hart Hill and any other spots after that.
