Note:  Pls call or txt if you plan to come (347-922-3824).  If there's no interest, I'll cancel.

East wind forecast for Sat so this should be a relatively easy century.  We'll park at Blue Point Brewery and ride to Patchogue LIRR station (less than 1/2 mile away) and catch the 8:13am train to Montauk.  I plan to have breakfast on the train.  There's a Starbucks across the street from the brewery and a few Deli's/Bagel shops nearby.  Pls come early if you plan to get food for the train - the train won't wait for us. Lol

We arrive Montauk at 10am and start riding.  There's an option to cut about 16 hilly miles off if you don't want to do the loop out to the lighthouse.  You can hang out in town for about an hour until we loop around.  Bailout option if you find it hard to finish.  There's a train that leaves Montauk at 3:43pm and makes all local stops to Patchogue.  You just need to ride to the closest station to get back to ride start.

Very scenic ride as I try to avoid Mtk Hwy as much as possible (see route below).  Food/Hydration/Rest Room stops about every 20-25 miles.  Paceline ride.  Group stays together.  No one gets dropped. Wait-ups after hills.

Bring $$/credit card for lunch/food stops and train fare (I use the MTA TrainTime app to purchase tickets and to check train schedules.  App should be set up well before trip).  Pack sufficient hydration/food to eat along the way and start hydrating and carb loading at least 24 hours before ride.

Call or txt if you have any questions (347-922-3824).

It's time a for a Thunderbird B+ paceline ride to Westhampton Beach, from the Dayton Avenue School! We'll have a short stop at the Beach Bakery.

NOTE: The school district is sometimes locking the parking lot gates, so park by the small administration building outside the gates.

This is a new route that begins with a run up Weeks Ave. and continues to Hot Water Street and Eastport-Manor Road. Then it's Old Country Road and down to Remsenberg and Westhampton Beach.  Confused?  Just remember to listen for turn directions!

After the stop, we'll visit the Casa Basso and Old Country, before we head back up to Manorville.

Allons-y!

Details (RL read field instructions carefully):

Let's take an early September Saturday morning and head out to the East End to explore the magical beauty and excellent riding on Shelter Island, an island without a traffic light.

The ride will be about 36 miles and provide an overview of the island.  We will stop at various points to enjoy special views and some unusual attractions. We will keep a steady pace, but won't rush, allowing us to enjoy the scenic vistas. Please note, Shelter Island is flat, rolling and hilly in many places, usually short hills, but somewhat frequent hills (some with real grades) that are mostly fun with some excellent downhills.  Everyone will take the hills at their own pace and we will compress to allow the group to catch up.

We will meet at the Greenport LIRR parking lot and head over to the ferry to Shelter Island at 9:30.  Please arrive early to give us time to gather. Bathrooms are available at the ferry terminal on the Shelter Island side.  The ferry is $6.00 in cash for a round trip for you and your bike (make sure to get and save your round trip ticket). The fee is paid on the ferry.

IMPORTANT Please eat a good breakfast and bring substantial snacks and plenty of hydration.  Also, please bring a sandwich or something for lunch, as we will not be making an indoor food stop.  Near the end of the ride, we will stop by our place on Shelter Island. There will a short period of hanging out on our deck and we will have some additional snacks and drinks for all.  Afterwards, we will make our way back to the ferry via a 3 mile route with some amazing views and homes.

Please let me know you will be joining us, by texting me at 917-921-5358, so I can judge how many folks will be on the deck.  Also please bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore.  I will share the final (I'm always tweaking) ridewithgps file with those who contact me.
