The route is about 35 miles with about 900 ft of elevation. It also includes a ferry ride down the East River from 90th Street to Wall Street. Obviously… not your typical "club ride". This will be much more of a "tour ride". I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Many will have a designated bike lane... a few might not. If you have a fear of heights, bridges could be an issue, but we take them very slow.
This is a B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but for the hills (+ bridges) and general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations. This is also an RSVP ride... and because of the limited space for bicycles on the ferry, I may limit the ride to a group of six people maximum.
Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in. The ride will be a "go" even if only one other rider is interested.
Please note the new ride-start location for this year. If you need an address for your GPS, then use 42-25 Vernon Blvd, Queens, NY 11101

So we want this ride to really be the very best ever!
Looking to do a social Sunday Kreb ride Sunday. Had to step it back a little for a few weeks after a few issues at TOH. Got the OK to ride from cardiologist. Meet at Bellport Kreb and do normal Kreb Ride. Again, this is going to be a ride that WILL NOT come in 21 or 22 mph.

Obviously… not your typical "club ride". This will be much more of a "tour ride". I'm very selective about the roads/paths I choose. Many will have a designated bike lane... a few might not. In the Bronx, we are definitely riding the mean streets. If you have a fear of heights, bridges could be an issue, especially the RFK, but we will be taking them very slow.
This is a B+ ride ... not so much for the speed, but for the hills (+ bridges) and general confident bike handling skills required to navigate a variety of advanced cycling situations.
This is also an RSVP ride. Contact me (text) in advance if you plan to come. Provide me with your SBRA Member # and I'll sign you in. The ride will be a "go" even if only one other rider is interested.

If you want a general idea of what these city rides are like... here's a well-done video put together nicely by SBRA member Bob Emmerich on the last city ride:
So, it looks like Sunday will be a windy one, so why don't we play the wind avoidance game in Manorville and the Pine Barrens again? We'll hit some old favorites like Mill Road and Hot Water Street. Plan on a ride that's nearly non-stop except for some wait-ups, so we get warmed-up and keep on going!
I am posting at a B+ level mainly due to the rolling terrain, but we may come in at a B/B+ average. Stronger B/B+ riders are welcome to join along; there will be wait-ups!
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride - if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. Trying to get some miles before the Seagull Century/Metric. This a paceline ride to Manorville, Northville, James Port, Riverhead, Moriches and back. I appreciate knowing who/if anyone is coming along for the ride. Text 631 331 5642 If I don't hear from anyone I will probably go on someone elses ride.

So what if it's Friday the 13th! Lots of Mtn Bikers have gotten their start here ... I don't think ticks will be a problem as the trails have gotten pretty wide since COVID kept people home and they rode more ;-). I will have spray if someone wants to use it. We aim to stay on the trail!
I will ride as slow as the slowest rider. If no begineers call or show than figure this to be an Intermediate ride and we'll do most of the BDs but it won't be fast.
This venue requires a DEC parking permit (haven't seen anyone being checked for a long time though). Easy to obtain a permit here: https://www.sbraweb.org/node/6490
If you don't have a permit you can park ~ 1/2 mile away at the Veterans Memorial Park and ride over.
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late.

At these speeds Pulling is Important ! I would like to keep the road speed between 16 - 17.5 mph and come in at an average Hi 15 and Lo 16. Good stuff after the rid
This will be an easy C ride, which will average 11.4 - 11.9, for anyone new to group riding and/or anyone getting back to riding.
The exact route will be determined at the start. Wherever we go there will be a bathroom stop & a food break. Since nothing is certain until we start, there will not be a cue sheet for this ride.

The usual M.O.M ride. Please be prepared to adhere to the B+/A- parameters: Cruise at 19-23 and Avg 19. If the wind is at our backs we can pick it up a little but nothing over 25 in that case. Thank you for cooperating in advance. Also no surging please.
It didn't rain that much ... so changed to Rocky ...First time this Fall. Will keep it short if a Beginner shows and skipping the West side regardless. I will ride as slow as the slowest rider. If no begineers call or show than figure this to be an Intermediate ride and we'll do only a few of the BDs but it won't be fast.
I don't think ticks will be a problem as the trails have gotten pretty wide since COVID kept people home and they rode more ;-). I will have spray if someone wants to use it. We aim to stay on the trail!
Text me at 631-988-6557 if you plan to ride with me and I will wait at the start if you're running late.
Check back to this posting before leaving for the ride as Life Happens and Things Change.

This ride is a paceline ride to Cutchogue. We will go as far as Oregon Road, take a break at the Cutchogue deli and then head back on Peconoic Bay Road. We should maintain road speeds of high 16mph to low 17mph.

The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 16.0 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. We ride the flat south shore of Long Island and take an extremely indirect, scenic, fun meandering route to Heckscher State Park that includes a bunch of turns and dead ends by water The ride back is much straighter and on more active roads. We will utilize a picnic area at Hecksher for a short picnic lunch break.
The ride starts at 10:00 to avoid most rush hour traffic heading west. .
Please bring your lunch, snacks and sufficient hydration, as it is very unlikely that we will stop to pick up food. Be sure to have snacks, since we won't get to picnic in Hecksher until late in the ride. Also bring an upbeat attitude ready to explore.
The ride starts at the Babylon LIRR station. There is metered parking at the station and free parking close to the station.
To join the ride or if you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:30on the day of the ride.

Saturday looks like another ugly rainy Saturday/ Best case is extremely diull and dreary, and the most likely is lots of rain and wind - not the weather for this ride. So, I will look to reschedule.
Whew, now that's a title. The east end ride series continues but adds a bunch of ferry rides. We meet by the parking lot in Greenport closest to the Shelter Island Ferry. We will than head to Shelter Island for some lovely riding before heading to the South Ferry, followed by lots of water views, before heading to Sag Harbor and then down to the climbs up and down Two Holes of Water and Bull Path. Then we head back to Shelter Island for some additional riding and a brief snack break on our deck, before a ride back to the North Ferry to Greenport. Overall 45 miles, with some hills, but nothing killer and most pay you back nicely. We will regularly compress at the bottom of the hills, so take them at your own pace.
The plan is is to take the ride at a touring type pace to enjoy the sights. Also, although we show-off a few Shelter Island attractions, this won't be as detailed as my Shelter Island only rides (e.g. no sculputure garden this time). No sit down lunch stop, so bring snacks, a sandwich, if you want, and plenty of hydration - especially bring an upbeat positive attitude, ready to explore and discover. Also bring $12 cash (exact if you can) for the round-trip ferries ($6.00 round trip on both the North and South ferries).
Please text me at 917-921-5358 to let me know you will be joining us. Also, I usually forward the final (I'm always tweaking) ridewithgps file to those who text.
Striving to hit 3000 miles for year and putting in a few extra miles but at a comfortable pace. We will have wait ups and 3 stops for Drinks Bathroom and Snacks. 72 miles with Mill Hill, Carl Hart Hill, and 51 Hill.
You must text me By Friday if you plan to ride. If anyone wants to post a tag along please do.
Any changes wil be posted by Friday Evening. If No signups I will post a different ride at shorter distance.
So, it looks like this Sunday will be a windy one, but don't dispair! Why don't we play the wind avoidance game in Manorville and the Pine Barrens again? We'll hit some favorites like Mill Road and Hot Water Street, while sheltering from the wind.

B+/A- RIDE. Cruise at 19-22, Avg 19-20, No Surging please. A steady paced ride is the goal at the parameters listed above. If this will be too slow for you please do not show up. Note: Towards the end of the ride we do not take Line Rd but continue North to Grumman and return from there the usual way, ie, Grumman, Burman, Rt 25.
Wait ups as needed: I like to keep the group together except for Burman (South and North) and Route 24 (East and West) after which there will be a wait up for the ride to regroup.
This will be a medium-paced recovery spin ride out to Riverhead. We'll keep a pace that ensures that no one gets dropped; with everyone taking a pull at the front of the paceline. SO, when you get to the front, be a team player and maintain the pace that the paceline was riding at! Think easy gears to spin out those tired muscles from the weekend.
The route has us heading out through Manorville and then doing the long run down Route 24. We'll then have a break at the bagel place in Riverhead. We return around Peconic Lake and the Pine Barrens to get back to the park.
Time to get those last miles for the end of the SBRA ride season...

Tour of Scenic Rural Eastern Conneticut. -- 92mi is an estimate, we can end up with close to 100, possible minor new explorations...
Park at ferry lot, be on board ready to ride with bike, get ticket before at ticket office, plan on extra time, ferry does not wait. Expect to return by dusk.... 4 or 5p return ferry. Lunch stop. Be self sufficient. Make sure your equipement is reliable. There is not much out there but pretty trees and scenery....
This is a ride for advanced/experienced riders, all day activity. Not recommended for riders never been on this or similar terrain.
There is a lot of climbing per mile. Total around 7000ft
This is a fun ride or tour. Many regroups, but we have a time to make and get the return ferry in time.
