Let's take a ride to Briemere Farms and the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen for a muffin or two...
With the predicted heat and humidity, I'm scaling back the pace. I'm also cutting the distance for this ride with a new route.
For this ride, the route will take us down Route 24 and then out onto the North Fork. We'll get just within sight of the Adirondack Chairs, before we head up to Briermere Farms for a stop at around 16 miles. The return takes us back through the farms and back the entire length of Grumman Blvd. and up Wading River Rd. to the finish.
This will be a B- ride. Expect an average between 14.5-14.9 In order to get this average the road speeds will be between 14.5 and 16.5 mph. Going downhill, or with the wind at your back will be faster. The main objective is to finish the ride without being too concerned about the average. The average will depend mainly on the wind, the hills, and who shows up. We will stay together and there will be one or two break-a-ways for those who want. We will take a break at the Beach and a rest stop at Wertheim about mile 10. Pulls would be appreciated.
If you have any questions or concerns please text me at 631.484.3490. Should there be a cancelation, or change it will be posted by 7:00am.
Today's Mi Tierrita ride will be going to the Beach. The route is mostly flat with a small incline here and there. The average pace for the ride will be between 15 to 15.9 mph, depending on the roads and wind direction. The road speed will be between 16.0 and 17.0 mph. The usual break-a-ways will happen for those who desire. We'll stop along the way for a bathroom break around mile 10. Don’t forget to bring a snack. Do you know what AGUAPANELA is? Come and find out. Pulls are always appreciated.
Come join us for a scenic, mostly flat and beautiful 33 mile ride that heads out from the Speonk train station to West Hampton, Quogue and the surrounding area that in addition to the usual lovely roads, utilizes a couple of less travelled ones. Please note that we will meet in the parking lot on the east side of Phillips Avenue.
We will not be making a stop to buy lunch during the ride, but there will be a number of stops along the way, so please bring food you may want or need as well as sufficient hydration. Most importantly bring an upbeat inquisitive attitude ready to explore and discover.
If you have questions, please text Bill Mastro at 917-921-5358. Additionally, I usually forward the final ridewithgps route to those that text (I am always tweaking routes). Any updates or weather issues will be posted to the ride listing by 7:15 on the day of the ride.

Meet at the Kreb Cycle in Eastport for a MODERATE paceline ride to Ponquogue Beach. The temperature looks to be a bit more mild, so it should be a good day for a ride. Remember to park in the northwest corner of the parking lot that's behind the bike store!
We'll ride through Eastport and Remsenberg along the waterfront, and then over the safe Post Lane bridge to Dune Road. Then we will have 5 miles of Dune Road to ride out to Ponquogue Beach, so there will be plenty of time to practice pacelining.
After a short break at Ponquogue Beach, we'll turn around and paceline back along Dune Road. We'll pick up Montauk Highway and then do the Casa Basso rise on our way back to Eastport.
Let's ride this like a recovery ride, after the days we've ridden in the heat and humidity!

So, it seems that construction may finally be finished at the parking lot by The Maples, so we can start riding from that location again!
It appears that Monday is the only day this week with some Blue Sky: https://youtu.be/G8dsvclf3Tk . So let's do another MTM ride, and get in some miles!
This time we'll head out through the farms and onto the North Fork. We'll ride past Briermere and visit The Tanks (cue sinister music). Then it's a 4 mile run to Mattituck for a stop at the bagel shop at around 22 miles.
Lets try to get a ride in before the rain the rest of the week. Ride to Strongs Neck, Old Field and West Meadow Beach. Rolling hills-nothing terrible. Waitups if needed. Should be back by 745 at the latest.
This is an A+ ride out of Yaphank, we do our best to work as a team and not drop anyone. Skip this ride if you are not up to a full "A+" ride, or if you want to go faster than the group. As usual this ride will have a higher or lower adverage speed depending on factors including wind, number of riders, and who those riders are. This has been a fast fun ride in the past; I'd like to keep it that way.

The North Port VA Medical Center is having a free Summer BBQ at 1!:00am on Sat August 17. This ride will start at the Key Food Shoping Center in KIngs Park just south of the KP railroad tracks. The ride will take us through Northport up to Asharoken Neck and then to the VA hospital in Northport. We will join the party for an hour and then have 5 miles to ride back to our cars. MORE DETAILS TO COME. I am trying to keep the elevation as low as possible, leaving out the steepest climbs. Stay tunned for the route wth exact miles and elevation. This should be fun!
Attention Long-haulers - here comes another adventure ride. Plan is to ride along the north shore of LI from Port Jeff to Orient Pt. Take ferry over to New London and ride along the south shore of CT to Bridgeport and then take ferry back to Port Jeff. Quick 5-10 min stops approx every 25 miles. To save some time, we'll grab a "lunch to go" at Orient Country Deli and eat on the ferry ride over to New London. I suggest everyone bringing a small string bag so you can safely carry your lunch to the ferry (4 miles).
