NOTE:
Under the Ride Level details, the "Type: Road Bike" refers to the ride will be on paved roads (rather then off road trails). Although a Road Bike is suggested for Road Bike Type rides it is not required. Hybrid and mountain bikes can be used on these rides as well provided you are comfortable with the pace outline in the Posted Ride. This ride calendar is for club rides, club meetings, club event posts and shop rides only.
For Other Events in our area and off Long Island check out the "Other Rides & Events calendar" and the "Forums"

The start will be on the east side of Chapman Blvd. This is a dead end street.
Come along as we head towards Briemere Farms to fuel up to do the Oil Tank hills. We will then head south to have lunch in Riverhead by the water and then head home. No one gets dropped. Hydration breaks will occur as needed.
Meet at the South Street School, for a controlled *** FUN*** paceline ride, out to Briermere Farms for some pie! Have no fear, we will be riding as a friendly group! This means no hijacking the pace, or trying to drop the group! We ride together and stay together...I have plans for after the ride and want to save some energy. NOTE: The length of the ride can be adjusted, depending on the group.
As far as the route: We'll do scenic back roads on the way East, and ride along the river on the return.
You know sometimes as ride leader, you feel like James Garner in Support Your Local Sheriff: the town says they'll support him as sheriff and then back-out when the bad guys come! But like the sheriff, I'll have some tricks up my sleeve if riders don't keep the pace controlled! https://youtu.be/Icxh5FMcQRE
Scenic ride through Southampton and heading east to East Hampton then turning north to Sag Harbor where we'll have a rest stop. Bring a snack and drink or you can buy something at the deli. We'll eat along the waterfront and watch the yachts go by before heading back.
Note: We will be parking only 3.5 miles from Coopers Beach (one of the top ten beaches in the United States). The parking fee for cars at this beach is $50/day but it's FREE if you enter by foot or bike. For those interested in going to the beach after the ride, I suggest bringing a backpack with a bathing suit, change of clothes, towel, beach blanket/sheet, sunscreen and bike lock. They have a concession stand, full bathrooms (not just porta potties) and even outdoor showers where to rise off (not meant for bathing). They also have beach chairs and beach umbrellas that you can rent.
I'm excited to try this new route and hope you will join me! We'll start out of Grumman and weave our way towards Medford. We can stop for a quick break at Sunshine Mall (a little before the halfway) and will keep the pace between 19-22mph. There's a hill towards the end on Grumman Blvd.
Change -Fred McKenna will be leading this ride for me today. Thank you Fred!
Today's’ route to Great River will change up a bit towards the end of the ride, if the wind is in our favor; making this route pretty flat except for 2 overpasses. We will go the usual route heading south using the Connetquot Park bike bath. We’ll work our way down to Heckscher Park, do a loop where one can stretch the legs a bit if desired.
The average pace for this ride will be between 14.5 & 15.0 +/- mph, or what conditions allow. The road speed will be between 15 and 17.0 mph, or slower if needed for safety concerns.
Please DO NOT PARK in the Meat Farms parking lot. Use the west side of the bank if the east side is full. Thanks!
We’ll be making a rest stop around mile 19 at the deli/bakery. The route back will be determined by the wind direction. Good Stuff after the Ride. Not sure what good stuff; it's always a surprise.
Any cancellations due to unforeseeable circumstances, or weather related problems will be posted by 7:30am. If you have any questions about this ride, or the start location, please call or text my cell, 631-484-3490.

Tour historic community, once the Vanderbilt estate, part of which became known as the Idle Hour Artist's Colony. Ride thru the Mews, original farm, the canals, mansion (was Dowling College), the Connetquot River, views of the Bayard Cutting arboretum...and more! Meet at southwest end of the lot.
